I just pre-ordered a copy of New York Parties Private Views by Jamee Gregory scheduled for release October 5, 2010. I am looking forward to getting an inside glimpse at some great social gatherings.
Gregory is a contributing editor for Elle Decor and writer for the New York Social Diary. She is also the co-author of another book New York Apartments Private View. I learned about her book in the latest Departures Magazine edition in which she also shares some entertaining tips.
What is your fail-proof cocktail–and–hors d’oeuvres combination?
I love pink Champagne with ice cubes. It’s so festive. I’ll pair it with little smoked salmon–and–cream cheese roulades, or mini crabcakes with a Cajun sauce. Sean Driscoll of Glorious Food is my go-to caterer. gloriousfood.com.
What makes a party quintessentially New York?
This is a no-brainer: the people. You have the pick of the litter with artists, musicians, politicians, beautiful single girls. There are limitless possibilities.
Is e-mail okay for invitations?
It’s perfectly acceptable, but there’s something nice about getting an elegant piece of stationery. I call people to keep track of attendance but send a reminder note, usually from The Printery in Oyster Bay, New York, so people don’t forget. iprintery.com.
