Try a night at the Cambridge theatre

London’s West End is known worldwide for its shopping, dining, culture, and entertainment with an eclectic fusion of over 2,500 restaurants and bars, 2,000 shops, and 30 museums and galleries, set amidst 17 Michelin-star restaurants and seven inviting green spaces. But the heart and soul of this recreational destination is the 40 famed theatres.

At the centre of London’s Theatreland, Covent Garden, Cambridge Theatre is one of the West End’s newest and most striking theatres. Built between 1929 and 1930, Cambridge Theatre reflects the expressionist style with simple shapes and modern lines reminiscent of the architectural style in Germany during the 1920s. Stepping inside, patrons are welcomed by its warmth and rich colours. The interior design, completely restored in 1986, was originally the work of renowned designer Serge Chemayeff of Waring and Gillow, and the restoration provides theatre-goers with an experience rich in comfort and luxury.

 
With seating on three different levels, Cambridge Theatre can accommodate 1,231 guests with a wide range of budgets and seating preferences. Seating plans are readily available online, and several websites make helpful seating suggestions for children attending performances; this is particularly useful in light of the current show playing at the theatre: Matilda the Musical, based upon the modern children’s classic by Ronald Dahl. Two hours and forty minutes (including an interval) of funny and engaging sights and sounds will entertain and enthral its audience.

Cambridge Theatre, nestled in one of the loveliest areas of London with an abundance of green space, cobbled streets, and market stalls, is conveniently located near the Covent Garden underground station on the Piccadilly line, within walking distance of a number of well-rated, beautiful hotels for a variety of budgets. Likewise, several eateries serving a wide range of cuisines are a two- or three-minute stroll from the theatre’s doors. Considering the theatre’s location and offerings, those looking for an evening or weekend retreat from the daily stresses need not look farther than Cambridge Theatre and the endless amenities of London’s West End.
